2008. I’m sitting in a billionaire’s office in old Dubai.
Behind him, through the window, Metro tracks are taking shape. The system is months from launch.
He leans back and says: "Nobody’s going to use it. It’s going to be the world’s longest roller coaster."
I stayed quiet. Didn’t argue.
Skip to today: 294 million people use Dubai Metro every year.
I’m telling you this because of what just got announced – the Gold Line. 9 billion dollar investment. Expected completion by 2032.
The Metro isn’t just transportation. It’s lubrication for the entire city.
Imagine those 294 million annual riders in cars instead. Traffic would be impossible. The Metro reshapes where people live, work, invest.
Here’s the mechanism:
Stations get announced → Construction starts → Development clusters around stations → Plot prices near Metro rise → Apartment premiums follow
This doesn’t happen overnight. Could be 12-18 months before exact station locations solidify. But the communities it will serve? We know those now.
What this tells you about Dubai’s behavior:
During the pandemic, airports were closed. Flights grounded. I’d drive by sometimes – the place was empty.
One day I notice workers repainting the pedestrian crossings. Fresh white paint on the zebra stripes.
Airport closed for months. No idea when it would reopen.
But Dubai didn’t pause. They stayed on schedule.
The Gold Line wasn’t dreamed up last week. They’ve been planning this for 2-4 years minimum.
Dubai continues forward on their vision.
What about your vision? For Dubai real estate, gold, bitcoin – whatever you’re building.
Don’t let the noise move your decisions.
Keep going forward.
